Our Pastor
Rev. Dr. R. B. Sutton
Rev. Dr. R. B. Sutton was called into the ministry in 1957.
He preached his first sermon on the first Sunday in January 1958 at the Dixie Hills First Baptist Church, under the leadership of his Father, the Rev. R. D. Sutton. In June 1958, he was ordained and became the Youth Pastor at Dixie Hills First Baptist Church for 10 years. From 1960 - 1964, Rev. Sutton served as assistant pastor at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Marietta, GA; he also served as assistant pastor at Zion Baptist Church, Canton, GA for 1 year, and subsequently became pastor in 1964 - 1968.
Rev. Sutton was called as pastor of Dixie Hills First Baptist Church in October 1968, 36 years ago. He has been preaching for a total of 46 years. Rev. Sutton has served as Moderator and Dean of Minister of the Atlanta Missionary Baptist Association, President of the Congress of Christian Education of the New Era State Convention of Georgia, and he is a past President of the Metro Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union. He is a member of the Lockheed-Marietta Retirees and a member of various boards and organizations.
Rev. Sutton has been married to Sister Teresa E. Sutton for 60 years. To this union were born 6 children; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 Godchildren. "This....Man of God" who has a soft and gentle voice and is able to communicate with both the old and young, has been a blessing to the Dixie Hills Family.
On May 28, 2004, The Carver Bible College, Atlanta, Georgia, conferred upon Rev. Sutton the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Divinity.
His compassion, concern, gentleness, and encouragement are qualities that are not only admired by his members, but also admired by other Pastors, Ministers, and people of all walks of life, who look to him for advice.
